Cider making course

Make your own cider from surplus Surrey apples

Spend a memorable day in the Surrey Hills learning the traditional craft of cider making with Misty Moon Cider.

Whether you’re a cider enthusiast, an aspiring home brewer or simply looking for a unique day out, you’ll learn every stage of the process, from apple selection and pressing through to fermentation, before taking home your own 5 litres of cider to finish fermenting at home.

Our course is hosted at the Rural Life Living Museum in Tilford, near Farnham, Surrey.  Farnham is a short (around one hour) train journey from Waterloo and the museum is around a five minute drive from Farnham.  Parking is available on site.  The museum itself is a beautiful 15-acre site set within the Surrey Hills, home to over 30 historic buildings and around 40,000 rural artefacts. The centre is a working celebration of countryside heritage, from agricultural tools to traditional crafts, and the perfect backdrop for a hands-on day of craft cider making.

We’ll be based indoors and out within the museum’s site, with woodland and historic barns all part of the backdrop.

It’s a characterful rural setting – exactly the kind of place that craft cider making belongs.

During the course you’ll:

🍎 Learn how different apple varieties influence flavour and balance

🍎 Sort, mill and press apples by hand using traditional equipment

🍎 Discover the science of fermentation and yeast

🍎 Fill and prepare your own 5-litre demijohn to ferment at home

🍎 Take home bottles of award-winning Misty Moon Cider

🍎 Enjoy a delicious lunch and refreshments throughout the day

The course is led by Kathryn Lockett, Founder of Misty Moon Cider, together with Dr Jill Sudbury, who has been part of the business since its beginnings. Together they bring years of practical cider-making experience and a passion for sharing traditional craft skills.
